God continues to raise up leaders from the kids in La Union who have participated in the discipleship program.  Miguelina's story is just one of them.  She is learning English and doing very well.

My name is Miguelina.  I've been in CUPS since I was 15 years old, and I work in the sewing program too.  When I was a teenager, I came to the discipleship program and then went to the university and studied business administration.

I was born in a Christian family, but when I was not in the discipleship program, I didn't know Jesus. Now I know Jesus in my life, and I have accepted Jesus. When I finished my university, I was working in another place, but that finished. I come to Rio Vista, and I work here with the CUPS Mission, and I say Thank God, Thank God, because I'm here, and I know all of the people are here for service, and I appreciate that. 

This story is only possible because of the continued support of The Bridge Family.  Thank you so much for helping CUPS Mission change the next generation for Jesus in the Dominican Republic.

The feeding program in La Union serves a hot meal every day and keeps them from having to scavenge thru the garbage for something to eat from the dump next door to the village. We are grateful that because you responded, 124 children will receive a hot meal every day for the next year. It also enables conversations that lead to relationship-building that helps our team there in the village to earn the right to be heard. Speaking life and sharing about the love of Christ is the ultimate purpose... and feeding the hungry helps open the door! 

We were created for community. Community is more than our neighbor next door. Sometimes God allows us the privilege of being in community with those hundreds of miles away, tucked away in a tiny village next to a garbage dump. Because you gave, you are helping to change lives not just for today and tomorrow but for eternity! We thank you!!

Some of the young ladies in the CUPS Mission sewing program were tasked to create backpacks for kids going back to school. Teams that came to the DR this summer brought school supplies.

The CUPS Mission team took the backpacks and stuffed them full of school supplies. Then those were handed out to kids in La Union and other surrounding villages. This wouldn't be possible without your support, Bridge family. Thank you!

The Dominican Republic government has started deportations of Haitians in the villages CUPS Mission serves. Recently, a Haitian student leader who doesn't have family was taken away. The young woman is being sent back to Haiti where she has no family.

Please pray for these kids and families who have been involved in CUPS Mission programs.

For several years, The Bridge’s adopted village of La Union Abajo, in the Dominican Republic, has experienced the love of Jesus through a beautiful missionary couple, Samuel and Ysmene. 

Recently, we found out that Ysmene has a tumor near her spine that needs a delicate surgery to remove costing $30K. Without it, she could become paralyzed or worse. 

This precious family has dedicated their lives to sharing Jesus, teaching bakery and sewing skills, and caring for the families in our village. 

Pray for Ysmene for healing and for God to make a way for her to get the needed surgery.

If you've ever visited the Red Light District in Sosua, while on a mission trip with The Bridge and CUPS Mission, then this update may really touch you. This is powerful ministry that is changing lives!

A team was recently praying for women in the Red Light District in Sosua.

One of the ladies on the team had also come last year and prayed with women. A woman on the street recognized the team member, came up to her and showed her the cross she gave her last year, thanked her and told her she carries it all the time.

Please pray for these women on the streets in Sosua. And thank you for your continued prayers over the ministry happening with La Union Abajo in the Domincan Republic.

CUPS Mission is growing! We are adding missionary couple Ruben and Andreza to our team in the Dominican Republic. Starting in January of 2025, the DeJesus will serve full-time with CUPS Mission in Sosúa, Dominican Republic, along with their 15-year-old daughter, Leah Juanita.

They will teach English as a second language to kids and families in the village.

Summer has begun in the DR and that means bible camps.

Groups from the US will come every week to help and our 75 student leaders are trained and ready to serve.

Your support for La Union Abajo is making a difference. We currently have a discipleship group for young women that meets twice a week in the evening.

Three (3) sewing groups are going right now, and there are mothers who did not have food for their babies who are now being supplied with food and milk.

It’s Monday and that means it’s time to introduce you to a new emerging leader in the Delmarva Community.

Ben Sorrells is the Director of Community Engagement at The Bridge, a nonprofit ministry.

Over the year, he has participated in a series of mission trips to a village The Bridge listeners across Delmarva and South Jersey have adopted in the Dominican Republic. While there – they’ve helped build up the village and aided in the children’s education.

So far, all school-age kids in the village attend school and they have built a community center, water tanks, a bakery, sewing center, and purchased property for a missionary who lives and works with the village.

Enter The Bridge, our local Christian radio station broadcasting to Delaware, the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Virginia, and South Jersey.

For several years, teams from the local areas have traveled from Delmarva and South Jersey to Sosua, Dominican Republic to assist with humanitarian efforts. In 2017, The Bridge adopted the village of La Union Abajo, a former sugar cane plantation, located near the town garbage dump. This village is home to many Haitian immigrants and their families who are ostracized from many Dominican communities. Today, there is a community center, a baking center, a sewing center, and an area for hundreds of local children to gather for fresh water, food, and an opportunity to better their lives. This successful community model is thanks to the leadership of Crossover Cups Mission who has built a stronghold in the Sosua communities.

During the most recent trip, over 20 volunteers provided soup, sandwiches and fresh water to women, men and children at the garbage dump. They delivered food and supplies to the six villages where the median income is $100 per month. Volunteers assisted with bible school for the hundreds of children whose parents were searching for scraps, food and supplies in the town dump.

The organization has started “Sewing for Souls” a sewing school and training program to provide little girls in the community with an important skill to create bags, t-shirts, and other supplies that are sold. For each product that is sold, the proceeds are split between the child and their family and the organization to cover operation costs. In addition, each community will have a “Bread of Life” baking program that teaches children how to bake bread, make pizzas, create cupcakes and other pastries that are sold in local stores. In the villages, bread is viewed as a luxury item to complement the daily meal of rice and beans.

School's out for the summer in the Dominican Republic and the kids are ready for summer camp!

The summer camp leaders have been trained and are ready for an incredible summer of ministry. The theme for summer camp this year is Soldiers of Faith.

The student leaders are excited to share the gospel with the little ones and have a ton of fun.

Teams are now coming down every week. We will have more than 200 people serving in the Dominican Republic this summer.

Will you please pray for travel and for their safety. Also pray that many kids would come to know Jesus personally and would grow in their faith this summer.

The boys in the bakery program are very excited to come and make breakfast every Saturday morning for the discipleship groups.

They are asking to learn more skills. More boys are asking to be a part of the program as well.

The discipleship program happens first on Saturday mornings and then everyone has breakfast.

The sewing program is going strong as well. Please pray our team on the ground that they have the wisdom to continue the work and reach more families.

There are currently four discipleship groups happening in La Union. Two groups of girls, aged 12-16 - and one group for boys, aged 12-16. There is also one large group of 64 children from 6-11 years old.

Because of your support, they're hearing about Jesus and growing in their relationship with Him. Also the Feeding Program, Bakery Program, and Sowing Program are all going strong. Again - that is all thanks to your support!

We couldn't do what we feel like God has called us to do in La Union without The Bridge Family.

Bible camps have wrapped up for the summer.  Praise God, we had more kids come to bible camp and more kids come to know the Lord.  The discipleship program now begins.  Please pray that kids will come and learn what it's like to live a life with Jesus.

This is Ben, from The Bridge! I recently led The Bridge Mission Team of 11 people to serve in the Dominican Republic.

Because of you, over 1,000 pounds of supplies were donated and hand-delivered to the mission for distribution. We helped with the feeding program in the dump and La Union Abajo. We painted and did house-to-house visitation, a prayer walk in the city streets, and helped host a village-wide movie night with a purpose.

We were honored for the chance to encourage the mission team on the ground.

And yes we survived the hike to the mountain village!

Thank you for every prayer, supply, suitcase, and dollar for baggage fees given to make this possible!
 

School is wrapping up this month and the team on the ground is preparing for bible school to start soon.

Please pray for the teams headed to the DR this month. Pray that the teams would grow closer to the Lord as they serve the families in the villages. Pray for safety and health.

Also pray for the kids who will be coming to bible school. Pray many would come to the Lord. Pray that these decisions would positively affect the villages and families.

Our team on the ground is gearing up for a very busy summer of ministry. Pray for their health and their families. Pray that they would grow closer to God as well as they serve the kids in the bible schools.

Thank you to our Bridge family for your continued support of La Union.  The bakery, sewing, and basketball programs are going strong.  Some of the workers from the bakery will be cutting back their time and helping with the summer bible camps.  Pray for them as they transition to working and serving.   

Pray for the kids coming to the summer bible camps.  The theme this year is VIVE meaning live. It will focus on teaching the kids that we have an eternal life to look forward to. 

Also pray for a lot across the street from the bakery that the mission would like to purchase for expansion of the ministry.
